Team Lead, Markets & Data Analytics

We are looking for an experienced economist and/or financial market analyst, preferably with management experience, to lead the team for Markets and Data Analytics within the Economic and Market Analysis Division of the Chief Economist Department. S/he report to the Head of Economic and Market Analysis Division.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead the delivery of activities, projects and communications of a team of six economists and market analysts covering the following areas:
- Monitor euro area interest rates and sovereign debt markets to detect risks to euro area member states’ market access and develop bond yield and interest rate scenarios to support in house processes.
- Monitor and assess global developments and external risks to the euro area, including spillovers from global financial markets.
- Develop and maintain the Chief Economist Department’s data infrastructure to support economic and market monitoring, research and scenario analysis.
- Support the Head of division in the management of the team and create a respectful, diversity friendly and inclusive environment:
- supporting the recruitment and staffing of the team
- providing guidance and feedback, empowering team members to ensure individual and collective performance and development
- managing time and resources
- Participate actively in the coordination of the work of the Division in particular the day-to-day task allocations within the Markets and Data Analytics Team, ensuring consultation and alignment with the Head of Division.
- Drive the outreach to economists on financial markets to collect feedback on global and euro area outlook and risks. Liaison with other divisions and departments to coordinate market analysis and monitoring.
- Participate actively in regular internal processes and Committees, including ESM’s Investment Management Committee.
- Contribute to external publications and outreach.
- Respond to ad-hoc senior management requests for briefings, presentations, and speeches.
KEY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
- Master degree or above, preferably PhD in international-/macro-economics, finance or related field.
- At least 12 years’ experience in macroeconomic and/or financial market analysis, gained at an International Financial Institution, central bank or on financial markets.
- An experience managing people in the area of economics or financial market surveillance is an asset.
- Ability to efficiently deal with people management issues, motivating, mentoring and developing staff.
- Strong drafting skills in English and track record of regular publications for professional audience.
- Solid knowledge of econometric techniques is an asset.
- CFA or other relevant professional qualifications is an asset.
PRACTICAL INFORMATION

- Applicable employment grade: Principal
- Contract duration: Four years, with possibility of extension
- Place of employment: Luxembourg
- Current working arrangements: possibility to work remotely, normally up to two days a week, from Luxembourg and the border region (or from further away under certain conditions).
