Your Role: Senior Backend Engineer Amsterdam

As a Senior Backend Engineer in Amsterdam, you will play a fundamental role in the further development of this scale-up and its cutting-edge software platform. The products developed here are all non-trivial, highly-distributed, and high-throughput solutions that run 24/7 without downtime. This gives you the opportunity to solve problems from the fundamentals. Talk about a challenge! As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will have plenty of room to make an impact on the roadmap and introduce new ways of doing things. Many products still need to be built completely from scratch, allowing you to leave your mark on the design, development, testing, and deployment. As an engineer, you are the linchpin of the company and are given every opportunity to add value with your creativity. To help you get the most out of your work, you will use the best of the best technologies, such as Event-Driven Architecture, DDD, TDD, GCP, Kotlin, Ktor, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and CI/CD. The tech stack is always evolving, as they embrace a true polyglot engineering mindset, always looking for the best way to solve challenges! And since this is a scale-up, the codebase is new as well. You will be working on a fresh codebase without any legacy! You can imagine that fundamental technical principles like clean coding, design patterns, and TDD are highly valued here.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience
• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is a big plus
• Solid fundamentals in Computer Science, Data Structures, and Algorithms
• Experience with a modern backend language such as Kotlin and/or Java
• Experience with Kafka is a plus
• TDD/high-quality product mindset
• Experience with system design
• Strong communication skills and a team player mentality
