Back End Developer

Backend Developer | 6-Month Contract | Melbourne | View to Extend

Our client is seeking a Backend Developer to join their team in Melbourne on a 6-month contract with the potential for extension. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge backend services, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to the development of high-performance applications.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable backend services using Java.
• Build APIs and web services to enable seamless system communication.
• Collaborate with front-end developers and stakeholders to integrate user-facing elements.
• Optimise backend systems for speed, security, and scalability.
• Write clean, efficient, and reusable code following best practices.
• Conduct code reviews and enforce coding standards within the team.
• Identify and troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, providing technical solutions.
• Work with DevOps teams to deploy and maintain backend services in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, etc.).
• Ensure high levels of security, data protection, and performance optimisation.
• Maintain documentation for systems, APIs, and processes.

Technical Responsibilities:

• Install, monitor, test, configure, migrate, maintain, and troubleshoot assigned technologies.
• Manage system/application environments and ensure ongoing operations align with enterprise standards.
• Research, design, implement, and test technology solutions.
• Proactively monitor and report on performance and utilisation.
• Diagnose and resolve complex software/hardware issues.
• Handle escalated tickets and out-of-cycle system/software requests.
• Assist with developing tactical strategies, processes, and procedures related to systems/application administration.
• Provide input into infrastructure architecture designs and disaster recovery plans.

About You:

• Strong backend development experience with Java.
• Experience in building and optimising APIs and web services.
• Knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure, etc.).
• Ability to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and enhance system scalability.
• Familiarity with system monitoring, maintenance, and automation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience with debugging complex applications.
