Software Engineer – Java & React

Melbourne | Financial Services | 12-Month Contract

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineer with strong Java and React capability to join a large-scale financial services program based in Melbourne.

This role sits within a high-performing engineering team delivering secure, scalable digital platforms in a complex, regulated enterprise environment. The successful candidate will be hands-on across both backend and frontend development, contributing to the design, build and enhancement of customer-facing and internal systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain applications using Java and React
• Build and consume RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture
• Contribute to system design, code reviews and technical discussions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile delivery environment
• Support deployment, testing and continuous improvement practices

Experience Required

• 6+ years commercial software engineering experience
• Strong backend development experience using Java (Spring / Spring Boot preferred)
• Frontend development experience using React
• Experience working with REST APIs and microservices
• Exposure to cloud environments (AWS and/or GCP)
• Experience working within enterprise or regulated environments

Highly Regarded

• Previous experience within banking or financial services
• Experience working on high-availability or customer-facing platforms
• Strong understanding of secure coding practices and enterprise standards
