Data Scientist - AI/NLP/ML

VASS is actively seeking a Data Scientist - AI/NLP/ML to work for our client, the European Commission in Belgium.

DESCRIPTION OF THE TASKS

The tasks include:

• AI solution analysis, design and implementation in close coordination with team management and AI technical lead;

• Propose adequate machine learning models and employ NLP techniques to extract valuable insights from large datasets;

• Deliver AI and ML training to technical and non-technical (business) users ;

• Communicate project results in a clear, modern and easy to understand manner geared towards business (non-IT) users;

• Data modelling in the context of data science and AI;

• Creation of industrial solutions to exploit data science and AI solutions;

• Support the development of generative AI solutions in knowledge management;

• Engage with colleagues from various teams, analyze business requirements and translate them into AI solutions;

• Follow AI developments within the European Commission. Attend meetings on AI and prepare briefings for the management upon request.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

• Master's degree in Computer Science or related field

• At least 9 years of IT related work experience gained after studies

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in developing AI solutions, including machine learning and NLP; Proven experience with Deep Learning models and NLP techniques;

• Excellent knowledge of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, Neural Network, and/or artificial intelligence frameworks;

• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) is an advantage;

• Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and methodologies in AI;

• Experience in cleaning and preparing data for AI and Machine Learning (statistical) models;

• Minimum 3 years of experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization tools (e.g. Docker) for the deployment of AI and machine learning applications. Experience with Knowledge Graphs and SPARQL is an asset;

• Minimum 2 years of experience with version control systems (Git Hub/GitLab) and ETL tools (e.g. Data Services, Talend etc);

• Technical proficiency regarding database design development, data models, techniques for data mining, and segmentation;

• Solution-oriented and accuracy to detail;

• Ability to cope with fast changing technologies used in application developments;

• Knowledge of European Commission IT environment is an asset.

SPECIFIC EXPERTISE

Following specific expertise is mandatory for the performance of tasks:

• Minimum 5 years demonstrable project expertise in the command of Python and R proficiency in an AI/ML context focusing on the use of relevant libraries, including but not limited to: NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, SpaCy, NLTK, PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, dplyr, stringr, tidymodels, torch for R, ggplot

• Minimum 3 year project experience (expertise) of Semantic NLP techniques, including semantic representation, text splitting, analysis, similarity and parsing.

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on, project-specific expertise using Large Language Models (e.g. OpenAI, LLaMa and Mistal) in a business environment with demonstrated ability to deliver measurable results on time ;

• Outstanding communication skills and ability to deliver presentation to both business and technical audiences;

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in each of the following 3 areas in the context of Artificial Intelligence (or Machine Learning or Data Science or Data Analytics) projects: (1) Data Analysis; (2) Business Requirements Gathering; and (3) Project Management.

• Excellent command of English. Good command of French is a strong asset
