About The Role...

As the VP of Engineering & Quality Assurance, you will be responsible for overseeing multiple engineering teams, ensuring the successful development, deployment, and maintenance of our diverse product portfolio. You will drive standardization and best practices across the organization, aligning engineering and QA efforts to business objectives while optimizing efficiency of post-M&A integrations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Engineering Excellence:

  • Develop and execute a unified engineering strategy and Target Operating Model across multiple products, and geographies.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence and customer-driven continuous improvement
  • Define, implement, and continuously refine key metrics and KPIs to measure the health, efficiency, and performance of the Engineering and QA departments. Leverage data-driven insights to drive strategic decision-making, optimize processes, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Standardize engineering methodologies, tools, and best practices across teams and regions. Drive autonomous ways of working and end-to-end ownership of development lifecycles.
  • Implement architectural principles that ensure scalability, performance, and security across deployment models.
  • Drive the adoption and integration of AI and automation technologies to enhance efficiency, improve software quality, and accelerate development cycles. Identify opportunities where AI can optimize processes, reduce manual effort, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Manage migrations to the cloud, moving workloads from legacy environments into AWS, Azure, and private cloud.
  • Establish end-to-end accountability for Solution Aligned Teams ensuring that responsibility is taken for deployment, operation and support.
  • Ensure engineering resources align with company priorities, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term technology strategy.
  • Lead post-M&A technology integrations, ensuring seamless collaboration between teams from acquired companies.

Quality Assurance & Process Optimization:

  • Establish and oversee robust QA strategies, including automated testing, performance testing, security testing, and compliance.
  • Implement quality metrics and KPIs to drive accountability and continuous improvement in engineering and QA functions.
  • Champion DevOps and CI/CD best practices, ensuring smooth releases and high availability.
  • Optimize testing frameworks for various deployment models, ensuring seamless experiences across different platforms.

Cross-functional Collaboration & Team Leadership:

  • Foster an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture that embraces diversity, collaboration, and continuous learning across geographically distributed teams. Implement strategies to ensure alignment, engagement, and a strong sense of belonging among team members.
  • Develop and champion leadership practices that empower teams, promote accountability, and support career growth, ensuring that cultural and geographical differences are leveraged as strengths to drive innovation and excellence.
  • Build and scale high-performing, geographically distributed engineering and QA teams.
  • Design and develop engineering resourcing models that balance contract vs perm, co-located vs remote, EU vs nearshore vs offshore to optimise delivery and return on investment.
  • Drive collaboration between engineering, product management, customer operations, and business/channel units to align technology with market needs.
  • Mentor and develop engineering and QA leaders, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and innovation.
  • Partner with security, compliance, and risk teams to ensure all products meet industry and regulatory standards.

Mergers & Acquisitions Integration:

  • Assess and integrate engineering teams, processes, and technologies post-M&A.
  • Develop and implement harmonized development frameworks and quality assurance practices across acquired entities.
  • Drive synergies and efficiencies by consolidating redundant systems and optimizing engineering workflows.

Technology Overview

Dstny for Service Providers is working within a Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) environment, with a strong focus on Microsoft Teams and a mobile-first approach to serve modern communication needs. The platform operates across multiple cloud infrastructures AWS, Azure, and private cloud offering flexibility and scalability.

Key technologies include:

  • GitOps model: A framework ensuring that the desired state of the system is maintained through version control, enhancing operational consistency.
  • OpenStack and VMware: Used for virtualization and private cloud management.
  • Kubernetes: Orchestration of containerized microservices.
  • Micro frontends: Enables modular, flexible UI development across teams.
  • Ansible and Terraform: Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools for provisioning, configuration management, and orchestration.
  • Jira: For Agile project management, tracking sprints, and planning in a structured manner.
  • SIP: Acts as the backbone for real-time communication, serving as the core enabler for voice, video, and presence services across diverse networks.

Supported development languages and frameworks include: C#, JavaScript, Java, React, and Vue, allowing for cross-functional development across front-end and back-end services.

What we're looking for in you...

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Evidenced capability to champion a customer-centric engineering approach by ensuring that technical decisions and quality initiatives align with user needs and business objectives
  • Proven track record of leading/transforming global, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Expertise in cloud, on-prem, and hybrid deployment models.
  • Experience in implementing DevOps best practices, fostering a culture of collaboration between development and operations, and implementing strategies to enhance system reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Deep expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid, high-quality software delivery. Ability to select and integrate the right tools to automate build, test, and deployment processes across complex environments.
  • Strong background in implementing and scaling automated testing frameworks, ensuring comprehensive test coverage, faster feedback loops, and improved software quality across unit, integration, and end-to-end testing
  • Proven experience leading engineering and QA teams using various Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, Lean). Ability to assess, adapt, and implement the most effective Agile frameworks to optimize team performance, delivery speed, and product quality in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity, compliance, and regulatory requirements in software development.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and the ability to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate engineers across a variety of technical disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Experience/Qualifications:

  • Experience in enterprise SaaS or large-scale distributed systems.
  • Background in AI/ML-driven quality assurance or test automation.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as SOC2, ISO, NIS2 or GDPR.
  • Experience working in private equity or high-growth startup environments undergoing rapid expansion.
