Your role and responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and driven R&D Project Manager to join our dynamic team at ABB Oy, Marine and Ports in Helsinki, Finland. In this role, you will lead global R&D projects aimed at developing innovative products, systems, services, and technologies for ABB’s Marine Service and Digital business line. Your work will be pivotal in advancing electrical energy systems, automation, and digitalization solutions within the maritime industry.

We are looking for a self-motivated and results-driven professional who thrives on tackling complex product development challenges. You have an organized approach to work and are willing to take responsibility, proactively driving projects forward—even contributing technically when needed.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Leading and overseeing R&D projects from initiation to completion, ensuring project goals, timelines, and budgets are met
• Working with cutting-edge technologies, including power converters (drives) and their applications, battery storage, distributed power generation, DC microgrids, power and energy management systems, and digital energy optimization
• Collaborating globally with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution and alignment with business objectives.
• Driving innovation and technical excellence, strengthening ABB’s position as an industry leader
  
  

Qualifications for the role

• M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Energy and Process Systems Engineering, or a related field
• Extensive experience in overseeing and guiding research and development projects
• Experience in managing system productization is highly advantageous
• Technical expertise in system drives and distributed power generation is a plus
• Technical experience in the system integration business is an advantage
• An imaginative and diverse mindset, problem-solving approach to work
• Ability to contribute effectively in a team environment, with a motivated mindset
• Ideally, you have understanding and skills on lean and agile R&D development as well as IPMA (International Project Management Association) C level certificate or equivalent
