Vice President, Software Engineering

Nord Group is looking for a seasoned VP of Software Engineering to lead a high-impact telecommunications project focused on next-generation connectivity. As VP of Software Engineering, you’ll oversee a globally distributed team and take full ownership of the software stack, spanning cloud-native infrastructure, mobile network systems, and user-facing applications. Your leadership will be central to delivering reliable, high-scale, and secure connectivity services across industries including consumer tech, automotive, and industrial IoT.

What You’ll Do

Lead End-to-End Software Development

• Own the architecture and lifecycle of a wide range of systems: RAN platforms, core networking, cloud-native services, and device management tools.
• Ensure robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure that supports millions of devices around the world.
• Translate network deployment requirements into reliable software products in collaboration with operations and network teams.

Define and Execute Strategy

• Shape long-term technical direction across software domains, from edge computing to satellite-to-device protocols.
• Introduce and scale technologies like CNFs, SDN, and NB-IoT over satellite.
• Promote automation, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices that accelerate delivery and improve quality.

Build and Empower a Global Team

• Recruit, mentor, and inspire a distributed engineering team across Finland, the US, and India.
• Create a strong engineering culture focused on innovation, performance, and continuous improvement.
• Establish effective structures, tools, and metrics to drive execution and accountability.

Work Across Functions and Ecosystems

• Partner closely with product, IT, and operations teams to shape roadmaps and align on goals.
• Oversee integrations with third-party tools, APIs, and cloud platforms to expand capabilities.
• Support troubleshooting efforts and optimize systems for peak performance and reliability.

Manage Budgets and Resources

• Set engineering budgets and oversee cloud resource usage, vendor negotiations, and software tooling investments.
• Define KPIs and track performance, security, and efficiency across platforms.

What You Bring

• 15+ years of software engineering experience, including 10+ years leading large, distributed teams.
• Proven success building cloud-native systems in high-scale, production environments.
• Technical fluency with microservices, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure (IaC tools like Terraform, Helm).
• Background in network systems, OSS/BSS, or IoT platforms, especially in real-time environments.
• Strong programming chops in Python, Go, or Java.
• Deep understanding of LTE, NB-IoT, 5G, or satellite comms (familiarity with 3GPP specs is a big plus).
• Experience with secure system design and distributed architecture best practices.
• Bonus: experience in edge computing, SDR integration, or applying AI/ML to network performance.
