Norway (Oslo) – Hybrid – Real-Time Control Systems Engineer – Marine Technology

Design and implement embedded real-time control systems for next-generation autonomous marine platforms!

We are seeking a talented Real-Time Control Systems Engineer to join our client's hybrid team in Oslo, working on cutting-edge marine technologies. In this role, you will design, implement, and optimize embedded systems that enable autonomous and semi-autonomous navigation, stabilization, and control of maritime platforms. Your contributions will directly support the innovation of smart vessels, underwater robotics, and sustainable marine transport.

Core Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain real-time embedded control software for marine vehicles (e.g., AUVs, USVs, ROVs)
• Design control loops for propulsion, steering, stabilization, and payload management
• Integrate sensor feedback (e.g., sonar, IMU, GNSS) into navigation and control systems
• Ensure robust performance in harsh marine environments with constrained resources
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and robotics teams to ensure system reliability
• Conduct system testing, tuning, and fault diagnosis both in simulation and at sea

Core Skills Required:

• Strong experience with C/C++ for embedded systems
• Proficiency in real-time operating systems (e.g., FreeRTOS, RTEMS, QNX)
• Solid understanding of control theory, PID tuning, and state estimation
• Familiarity with sensor integration and data fusion in embedded platforms
• Experience working with CAN, UART, SPI, and Ethernet-based protocols
• Ability to read schematics and debug hardware-software interfacing issues

Preferred / Additional Skills:

• Experience with model-based design (e.g., Simulink, Modelica)
• Familiarity with underwater navigation systems and marine communication protocols
• Background in hydrodynamics or marine mechatronics
• Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
• Exposure to ROS/ROS 2, especially in autonomous vehicle contexts
• Knowledge of reliability and redundancy techniques in mission-critical systems
