A product like this is all about driving greater accuracy within the product pipeline, ensuring users receive the rewards they deserve. And this is where you come in….
The Role
If you want to solve real-world problems that can direct the course of an entire company while having the autonomy to choose the way you solve it then this is the role for you.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the Rakuten Rewards platform. You’ll work across both the app and browser extension environments to track user behavior and transactions, ensuring data accuracy and delivering seamless reward calculations. You will design and build scalable software solutions by understanding user needs, analyzing system workflows, and identifying areas for improvement across data and processes
With millions of users relying on Rakuten’s Rewards cash-back product, you’ll help break down the monolith into microservices, bringing your experience and insights to guide this transformation. Your impact won’t just be in the code—you’ll lead conversations, make autonomous technical decisions, and proactively identify and solve problems. You’ve been through a migration like this before and are excited about greenfield opportunities, AWS innovation, and building with purpose.
What you bring to the role
- Strong experience developing, deploying, and maintaining web libraries and frameworks with a special focus on web security.
- Strong experience writing client-side technologies (JavaScript, CSS, HTML)
- Proven skills with either TypeScript/JavaScript programming languages
- Strong understanding of modern frameworks like ReactJS, Redux, Node
- Demonstrated experience with SOA concepts, principles, and patterns required. You have opinions on these from lessons learned
- Designed event driven architecture for multiple services to consume
- Proficient in writing scalable REST APIs
- Show good understanding of when and why you would want to use Events vs REST
- Excellent understanding of OOP design principles (loose coupling, encapsulation, etc.)
- Experience with internationalization or localization
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience
