Job Summary:
The Chief Digital Inclusion Officer (CIO) is a senior executive responsible for leading and executing the company's strategy for inclusion, diversity, and digital accessibility, with a significant focus on product development in a SaaS environment. The CIO collaborates with cross-functional teams, particularly in product, design, and engineering, to ensure that all digital products are inclusive, and meet the needs of a diverse global user base. In addition, the CIO leads inclusive product development to create a world enabled by technology.
Main Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead the company’s inclusive product development and inclusion strategy, ensuring it is aligned with the overall business goals and directly impacts development roadmap.
- Champion the integration of inclusive design into all areas of the business.
- Advocate for inclusion at the executive level, driving a culture that prioritizes diversity, inclusion as core components of the company’s innovation strategy.
- Lead efforts to integrate inclusion principles into every stage of the product development lifecycle (PDLC), from ideation and design through development, testing, and release.
- Lead product management, UX/UI design, and all teams to ensure all new products and features are built with enabling inclusion, focusing on user-centred design that benefits all users.
- Collaborate with product owners to create roadmaps that prioritize inclusive design.
- Build, lead, and mentor a cross-functional team of inclusive specialists, inclusive designers, and product developers focused on building digital solutions.
- Provide strategic guidance and career development support to team members, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration in driving inclusive-focused product development.
- Promote a proactive approach to continuous learning and improvement for team members, encouraging them to stay ahead of accessibility trends and evolving standards.
- Ensure that all SaaS platforms and digital products comply with international accessibility standards, such as WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, and ADA, and prepare the company for future regulatory changes.
- Develop and maintain accessibility policies, guidelines, and documentation to support product teams in consistently meeting accessibility requirements.
- Ensure DEI initiatives are tightly aligned with product development goals, making sure that products are created by diverse teams who reflect the needs of a broad and inclusive customer base.
- Set measurable DEI goals and track progress, ensuring the company makes tangible progress in fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
- Implement processes for gathering user feedback from diverse groups, including individuals with disabilities, to ensure that product inclusion challenges are addressed and user needs are met.
- Represent the company as an industry thought leader in inclusion at conferences, events, and forums, driving conversations around product development that is inclusive for all.
- Build partnerships with inclusion advocacy groups, contributing to the broader conversation on inclusive product development in the SaaS industry.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in accessibility and inclusion, ensuring the organization is a leader in digital innovation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in leading and managing cross-functional teams, preferably in inclusion, design, or product management roles.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor, and guide team members toward achieving strategic goals.
- Experience in building and scaling inclusion functions within a fast-paced SaaS or technology-driven environment.
- Proficient in web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, ARIA, etc.).
- Knowledge of technologies (screen readers, voice recognition software, alternative input devices, etc.).
- Ability to explain technical issues and best practices to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong presentation and training skills
- Hands-on experience in conducting accessibility audits, developing remediation strategies, and ensuring compliance in SaaS platforms.
- Ability to assess complex digital environments and identify inclusive challenges and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive inclusive solutions that are both practical and scalable.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale projects, ensuring on-time delivery and alignment with strategic goals.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic SaaS environment.
