Back End Developer

Overview:

Optomi, in partnership with a global leader in self-service technology solutions for the retail industry, is seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer to join a cutting-edge initiative. This project involves modernizing their self-checkout platform from a legacy Windows-based system to a scalable, cloud-enabled architecture. With a strong market presence and a push into new international markets, including Japan and Dubai, this is an exciting opportunity to join a high-impact engineering team during a pivotal transformation.

Experience of the Right Candidate:

• 3+ years of hands-on development experience with Golang and/or Java (either language is acceptable).
• Proven experience building backend APIs or embedded systems, with some exposure to front-end integrations.
• Background in test-driven development with a passion for writing clean, maintainable code.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Bonus experience includes work in point-of-sale (POS) systems, retail technology, and tools such as Redis, MQTT, MongoDB, and CI/CD platforms like Jenkins, Harness, Helm, and automated testing frameworks.

Responsibilities of the Right Candidate:

• Develop high-quality, reusable, and secure back-end services for a new cloud-native self-checkout platform.
• Participate in the design and implementation of new features, transitioning the system from a Windows-based application to a modern cloud architecture.
• Collaborate with the product owner to maintain a clear, actionable development backlog.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve software issues with a focus on long-term reliability and performance.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automate testing, and support DevOps processes including infrastructure provisioning and product deployment.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, ensuring all code meets functional and non-functional requirements.
• Support internationalization efforts, including language support and customizations for global deployments (e.g., Japan, Dubai).
