🧭 About The Project

The European Centre for Algorithmic Transparency (ECAT), hosted by the Joint Research Centre (JRC.T3), is at the forefront of enforcing the Digital Services Act by conducting research and investigations on very large online platforms and search engines.

To support this mission, we are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join as an external consultant, contributing to the development of cutting-edge data analytics tools and services.

🛠️ What You’ll Do

Develop, maintain, and document Python-based software for data collection, engineering, and analytics 🔧
Take part in data science projects, handling key tasks like requirement analysis, development, testing, and documentation 📊
Build and manage robust data pipelines for ingestion, cleaning, transformation, and storage of diverse datasets
Implement automated testing (unit, regression, stress tests, etc.) to ensure software quality and reliability ✅
Deploy tools using DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab) 🚀
Use containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes for scalable deployments 🐳
Write clear and professional technical documentation in English 📝
Actively contribute in review meetings and interact with project stakeholders 🤝

🎓 Qualifications & Skills

Must-Haves:

Bachelor’s degree (Level 6 EQF or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field 🎓
Excellent programming skills in Python 🐍
Deep knowledge of software testing frameworks and best practices
Experience in debugging, deployment setup, GPU handling, and dependency management
Skilled in defining APIs, CI/CD tools, and DevOps environments
Fluent in English (C1) – written and spoken 🗣️
Strong time management and ability to work on multiple concurrent projects ⏱️
High level of discretion and integrity, especially when handling sensitive data 🔒

Bonus Points:

Certifications or training in machine learning or data science 📚
Experience working in international/multicultural teams, both on-site and remotely
Familiarity with writing documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences
