Game Path is working with a small independent console game development studio based in the heart of Bordeaux’s vibrant tech and creative scene. We are actively seeking a Lead Game Designer to join their growing team on a newly developed and original Platformer title.


The role is permanent and Hybrid (3 days a week on site) – All applicants must be prepared to work on this basis and situated within a commutable distance to Bordeaux.


Position Overview


As Lead Game Designer, you will drive the creative vision and gameplay systems for our upcoming console-based platformer. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams - art, programming, audio, and production - to shape engaging levels, mechanics, and player experiences from concept to launch.


Key Responsibilities


  • Define and communicate the core game vision, mechanics, and level design for a new console platformer.
  • Lead and mentor a team of game designers, fostering a collaborative and innovative design culture.
  • Develop and iterate on gameplay systems, controls, and level layouts to ensure a fun and polished player experience.
  • Collaborate with artists, programmers, and producers to ensure design goals are met within technical and production constraints.
  • Analyse playtest feedback and game metrics to refine design and balance gameplay.
  • Document design systems, mechanics, and guidelines clearly for cross-team understanding.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in platformer and console game design.


Requirements


  • Proven experience as a Game Designer, with at least one shipped console title (platformer experience highly preferred).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience managing or mentoring design teams.
  • Deep understanding of platformer mechanics, level design, and player progression systems.
  • Proficiency with game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine or Unity).
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment (partially remote, partially on-site in Bordeaux).
  • Passion for creating memorable, innovative gameplay experiences.


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with 3D animation pipelines and workflows.
  • Familiarity with hybrid work models and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Fluency in French and English.
