About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Data/AI Engineer (Freelance) to join our client’s Data Center of Excellence for a 12-month project based in Brussels (hybrid). This is a high-impact opportunity to shape the future of data and AI infrastructure at a leading financial institution, driving stability and innovation at the heart of the European financial system.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Extend and maintain the Data Platform (Databricks on Azure), adapting to evolving business and technical requirements
• Lead the deployment and technical ownership of Azure AI services, including AI Foundry, AI Search, OpenAI Service, and Document Intelligence
• Establish governance frameworks and ensure data security and compliance across all Azure services
• Design and implement robust data ingestion pipelines to power AI initiatives
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful AI projects
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and architectural expertise to colleagues
• Advise on AI model selection and key technical decisions
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for data and AI infrastructure processes

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as a Data/AI Engineer in complex, high-stakes environments
• Expert-level proficiency in Databricks (minimum 3 years practical experience)
• Hands-on experience with Azure AI Services (AI Foundry, AI Search, OpenAI, Document Intelligence)
• Advanced skills in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Strong background in data pipeline design, ETL processes, and performance optimization
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL; intermediate experience with Spark
• Demonstrated ability to drive outcomes, own solutions end-to-end, and mentor others
• Experience in regulated or financial environments is a plus

• Ability to work in a hybrid model (up to 50% remote)
• Freelance contract, 12 months, full-time
