Senior Backend PHP Developer

Our client is a leading European brand in the experiences and gifting space, helping people book everything from weekend breaks and spa days to once-in-a-lifetime adventures. They’re now growing their engineering team and are looking for a Senior PHP Backend Developer to join their Dublin HQ.

This role sits within the team powering the search and product catalogue, supporting key features that help customers find and book experiences they love. It’s ideal for someone with strong PHP backend experience who’s worked on e-commerce, booking systems, or 3rd-party integrations, and who’s also had a taste of technical mentoring or team guidance.

What you’ll be doing:

• Build and improve backend services in PHP (Symfony)
• Help shape the architecture behind search, product discovery, and booking
• Contribute to system performance, scalability, and clean code
• Work closely with product, QA, and distributed teams
• Review code, support other devs, and share best practices
• Ensure good test coverage and solid CI/CD pipelines

What you’ll bring:

• 5+ years of experience in backend development
• Strong PHP (7 or 8) and experience with Symfony or similar frameworks
• Solid grasp of REST APIs, MySQL, and backend architecture
• Experience working with e-commerce, booking systems, or 3rd-party integrations
• Some exposure to search systems or product catalogues
• At least 1 year mentoring or guiding other developers
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset
• Comfortable with Docker, Git, and automated testing

Nice to have:

• Experience with tools like Elasticsearch, Redis, or RabbitMQ
• Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
• Worked on high-traffic or customer-facing platforms
