Are you an experienced operational leader in port terminal operations, ready for an international challenge? We are looking for a hands-on General Supervisor to ensure safe, smooth, and high-performance cargo operations at our multi-purpose terminal in Oman. In this key role, you will guide and motivate operational teams, oversee daily vessel and delivery activities, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of safety and efficiency across all operations.

Tasks and responsibilities

As General Supervisor, you are responsible for the operational performance and safety of all loading and unloading activities involving vessels and trucks. You will spend approximately 75% of your time outside on the terminal, supervising operations and ensuring strict adherence to standard operating procedures and safety standards. You will prepare, execute, monitor, and control all cargo-related activities both on the landside (Delivery) and the waterside (Vessel Operations). Through coaching, training, and role-model behavior, you will motivate and inspire your team.

Some of your tasks and responsibilities will be:

  • Managing safety - The nature of the activities implies an increased risk of injury or damage. It is the responsibility of a general supervisor to ensure all working areas are safe, workers get instructed and are fully trained to do their job safely and efficiently. Reason being that safety is our number one core-value.
  • Managing vessel loading and discharge - Supervise all vessel loading and discharge operations. In cooperation with the planning department, you execute the operational plan and provide feedback when necessary. You assess the number of port operatives, and the equipment required to safely and efficiently load and unload vessels and trucks and make adjustments as needed.
  • Managing delivery - Plan and allocate delivery resources, instruct delivery supervisors, and monitor both safety, performance and quality.
  • Managing staff – In close cooperation with the Operations Manager you will make recommendations regarding hiring, discipline and promotion of subordinates; authorizes leave and overtime; identify training and development needs and implement them. In close cooperation with the shift supervisors, you will advise on job related problems and evaluates and rates employee performance.
  • Liaising with customers and other port users – You will liaise with other port users such as consignees, inspectors, surveyors, transporters, shipping agents and the port authority.
  • (Continual) Process improvement – the general supervisor records process interruptions and deficiencies, informs the operations manager and participates in improvement solutions.
  • Supportive systems - Many of the above-mentioned tasks are system supported. CSO runs advanced Terminal Operating, Equipment Monitoring and HR software.


What do we expect?

  • Bachelor degree or the equivalent level gained in work experience;
  • Showing excellent operational and cargo characteristics knowledge;
  • Ability to work in shifts as well as holidays if required/needed;
  • Leadership skills, pro-active attitude and be safety oriented;
  • Attention to detail, accurate and time management skills;
  • Excellent communication in English (both verbal and written) (Minimum B2 level);
  • Good communication skills with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in the maritime/port/terminal business;
  • Good computer skills : Microsoft Office, HRMS, EXB and Master Terminal Navis (MTN);
  • You are open to move to Oman for minimum 2 years.
