CTO / Backend developer

We’re looking for a hands-on and strategic technology leader to join us as CTO / Backend Developer. In this role, you’ll take charge of and manage our development processes, lead and support a small tech team, and actively maintain and improve our platform. You enjoy thinking strategically, coming up with ideas and building smart, sustainable solutions. You are not afraid of rolling up your sleeves and doing a bunch of coding yourself. Experience with PHP is preferred and considered a strong plus. You’ll have significant influence over the technology choices going forward, and we encourage you to help shape the technical direction of our product. 

You’ll be part of a small, fast-moving company where impact is immediate and clarity is key.

• Hands-on backend development - You take operational responsibility for maintaining, improving, and extending our existing backend systems. You write code, troubleshoot issues, and ensure our platform is robust, secure, and fit for purpose.
• Lead and structure our development process - Design and implement lightweight but effective workflows for our development team – from prioritization and planning to follow-up and delivery. You ensure transparency, ownership and alignment.
• Coach and support the tech team - Guide and support a small team of developers. You lead with clarity and empathy, creating a shared understanding of goals, responsibilities, and progress.
• Strategic thinking with a customer lens - You help us zoom out and ask: “Is this what truly creates value for our users?” You’re able to balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural and product direction, always with the customer’s best interest in mind.
• Create positive impact for customers - Work closely with product and customer-facing teams to translate user feedback and needs into actionable tech strategy. You care deeply about real-world outcomes and delivering quality solutions that matter.
• Bring fresh eyes and challenge the status quo - As someone joining us externally, you’ll spot blind spots, question habits, and help us evolve. You’ll be both a doer and a thought partner.

• You’ve led development teams and enjoy helping others grow and succeed.
• You have solid experience with backend development (preferably in Python/Node.js/Java/PHP or similar), and are comfortable diving into and improving legacy systems.
• You know how to create structure in fast-moving environments – whether it’s setting up new workflows or refining existing ones.
• You’re customer-focused, pragmatic, and think in terms of value and outcomes.
• You’re comfortable working part-time and flexibly, with clear priorities and good time management.
• You bring a fresh, curious, and constructive mindset.
