Backstage and Platform Developers

Our client is implementing an internal developer platform based on Backstage. The platform will be owned and maintained by existing platform teams, including those responsible for Azure, Azure DevOps, and ServiceNow. To ensure a rapid, high-quality implementation—while anchoring long-term ownership within the right teams—we are seeking three senior consultants with experience in Backstage and platform development.

Assignment Description:

The consultants will support the existing teams who will own and further develop the platform. This is not a "build and hand off" role, but rather about enabling, guiding, and strengthening the teams so they can take long-term ownership. The focus is on knowledge transfer, technical guidance, and helping remove technical obstacles.

Responsibilities:

• Set up and configure Backstage
• Develop and customize Backstage plugins in collaboration with internal teams
• Integrate the internal developer platform (IDP) with Azure DevOps, Azure services, and ServiceNow
• Actively support platform teams with onboarding, troubleshooting, and daily operations
• Ensure teams build sufficient competence for self-maintenance
• Document solutions, establish best practices, and contribute to training and education
• Participate in anchoring efforts around shared ownership and maintenance models

Required Competence:

• Several years of experience with Backstage or Red Hat Developer Hub
• Strong knowledge of Azure and Azure DevOps
• Experience with Red Hat OpenShift (OCP), Kubernetes, and GitOps
• Ability to support and enable existing teams rather than building in silos
• Skilled in documentation, internal training, and knowledge sharing
• Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with product teams and platform architects
