iOS Engineering Lead

VALE Partners have been engaged by an iconic Australian software company to help find their next engineering leader. You'll join a team who are immensely proud of their craft, their product and the impact they have on millions of users on a daily basis.

This is a hands-on role, initially more focussed on contributing Swift code but gradually ramping up into a 40-50% people leadership split. You'll be responsible for the success of a small team of highly capable engineers, working with them design, ship and maintain features in close collaboration with designers and other stakeholders. Once comfortably onboarded, you'll take on the responsibility of conducting 1 on 1s, providing mentorship and facilitating career development.

Role Overview

• Lead, coordinate and align engineering functions within a small team of highly capable engineers
• Plan and organise development of mission critical features in collaboration with other stakeholders
• Deliver feedback and take part in reviews and performance management through 1 on 1s and career development
• Contribute hands-on engineering work (40-60% of the role) developing and shipping features using Swift and iOS

What You'll Ideally Have

• A background as a senior, staff or principal level engineer
• Strong experience with Swift and iOS development e.g. you have opinions on the tradeoffs between SwiftUI and UIKit at scale that are rooted in personal experience
• A track record of successfully supporting and mentoring engineers of varying experience levels
• Passion for producing high quality software that gets the small things right
