AI engineer (Python) with localization knowledge

At The Action Sports Translator, we are looking for a freelance AI-savvy engineer with a solid understanding of localization to help develop and maintain our internal AI-powered translation tool. You’ll work closely with our project managers and operations team to bring automation and efficiency to real-world localization workflows.

You’ll be joining a fast-moving team of localization specialists working on projects for some of the world’s leading action and outdoor sports brands.

📍 ⏰ This is a flexible, fully remote freelance role (approx. 40 hours/month), and you must be based in a CET, GMT or EEST (*not EST) time zone.

What you’ll do

You’ll help drive the development of our internal AI tools for localization, combining strong Python engineering skills with practical knowledge of how localization teams work. Your work will support active projects while shaping our long-term automation capabilities.

Your day-to-day may include:

– Supporting, developing and maintaining our internal AI-based translation tool

– Improving output quality through prompt engineering, tuning and testing

– Running and monitoring AI tools for ongoing projects

– Assisting PMs in preparing files for compatibility with AI workflows

– Acting as a hybrid product owner/developer in a lean, hands-on setup

– Troubleshooting and iterating on features to improve tool performance

Key skills

– Strong Python skills (clean, well-structured code)

– Solid understanding of LLMs and prompt engineering

– Familiarity with localization workflows and TMS tools (ideally Phrase TMS)

– Knowledge of translation memory, glossaries, style guides and alignment

– Comfortable working independently and owning projects end-to-end

– Based in a CET, GMT or EEST time zone and available ~40 hours/month

Nice to have

– Experience with the Phrase TMS API

– Open-source contributions or developer tools
