Role Overview:
We are looking for a proactive and hands-on HR & People Operations Lead to join our growing Australian team. This role combines strategic HR partnership, operational execution, and core HR administration. The successful candidate will support business leaders, ensure compliance with Australian workplace laws, and handle daily HR processes, all while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic HR Business Partnering
- Partner with leaders to align HR initiatives with business strategy.
- Lead programs in performance management, engagement, culture, and workforce planning.
- Analyse HR data to drive decision-making and advise on people-related strategies.
- Support organisational change and talent development efforts.
People Operations & HR Administration
- Oversee HR operations including onboarding and offboarding, employment contracts, probation periods, people training and career development, HRIS updates, and payroll coordination.
- Oversee Time and Leave Management processes
- Perform HR administrative duties such as record-keeping, policy documentation, and employment letters.
- Maintain accurate and compliant employee files, and manage internal HR communications.
- Ensure the integrity of data within HR systems and generate reports as required.
Compliance & Policy Governance
- Keep HR policies and procedures current with the Fair Work Act, NES, Modern Awards, and WHS requirements.
- Mitigate legal and compliance risk through proactive HR governance and audit-readiness.
- Interpret and apply Australian workplace legislation accurately.
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as a trusted advisor for employee relations, managing issues such as grievances or performance concerns.
- Drive a positive work environment through wellbeing, engagement, and inclusion initiatives.
- Act as the key contact for HR queries from staff at all levels.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Lead or support HR projects to enhance efficiency and employee experience.
- Introduce or optimise processes and systems for HR service delivery.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on cross-functional initiatives.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong generalist HR experience with practical knowledge of the Australian industrial relations system.
- Ability to remain calm and perform under pressure, managing sensitive issues with discretion.
- Skilled in risk mitigation and compliance in HR contexts.
- Proven ability to build relationships and influence a wide range of stakeholders across all levels.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Advanced organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- High proficiency in HRIS tools, data handling, and reporting.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a continuous improvement focus.
- Demonstrated ability to work both strategically and operationally.
High emotional intelligence, confidentiality, and resilience.
Desirable Qualifications:
- HR Qualifications
- Previous experience in consulting, professional services, or a growing SME environment is a plus.
