Application Development Support Consultant (Oil & Gas ) subsurface

IT – Business Applications (Subsurface)

We are seeking a highly skilled Application Development Support Consultant to support business-critical subsurface IT operations and lead technical delivery across specialized upstream domains, including Drilling & Completion, Reservoir Engineering, and Production Operations. The role requires a strong blend of technical development expertise, system integration capabilities, and stakeholder-facing support to ensure effective, scalable, and resilient digital solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• User & Operational Support: Provide daily technical and application support to end users in subsurface disciplines, ensuring business continuity and rapid issue resolution.
• Requirements Gathering & Analysis: Engage stakeholders to define, refine, and document business and system requirements aligned with domain-specific needs.
• Application Development & Customization: Design, develop, and maintain high-quality software solutions using modern programming frameworks (with a focus on Python).
• Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Lead the analysis and resolution of complex system issues, including debugging, crash analysis, and performance tuning.
• Project Execution: Act as a subject matter expert during subsurface IT project delivery—ensuring alignment with design specifications, timelines, and technical standards.
• Integration & Middleware Management: Support middleware stack operations, including configuration and maintenance of web-based platforms (e.g., Flask, IIS).
• Collaboration: Work closely with internal IT teams, end users, and third-party vendors to deliver integrated and user-centric application solutions.
• Documentation & Compliance: Create and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and standard operating procedures in alignment with project and support activities.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or Petroleum Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in upstream Oil & Gas, with a strong focus on subsurface IT systems and project delivery.
• Proven track record in application development, particularly in supporting and optimizing subsurface workflows.
• Strong knowledge of E&P data lifecycle and domain-specific data structures.
• Proficient in Python and capable of interpreting system-level logs and debugging application crashes.
• Familiarity with middleware technologies and deployment environments (e.g., Flask, IIS).
  
  

Preferred Skills

• Experience managing support environments using incident, problem, and change management frameworks (ITIL is a plus).
• Exposure to DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems.
• Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to interface directly with domain experts and business stakeholders.
• Hands-on experience supporting upstream digital transformation initiatives or analytics platforms is an advantage.
