Principal UI Developer

August
Australia · Full-time · Entry

You don’t just code; you craft. You build immersive, elegant digital experiences that feel inevitable. You think in components, care about design, and have a deep respect for details most people miss. You’ve spent years honing your development skills, motivated by a desire to make things better, smarter, and more human.

We want a Principal UI Developer to join our multidisciplinary team. You’ll be a core contributor; thinking critically, collaborating instinctively, and building digital products that push boundaries and unlock impact. You bring a strong command of modern front-end technologies, and a creative mindset that thrives at the intersection of design and development.

This isn’t a ticket factory role. You’ll work on large-scale, greenfield digital projects, owning outcomes from day one. Our team focuses on complex problems with deep involvement. You'll shape the experience, steer the technical direction, and help us deliver work that moves the needle.

You’ll be backed by an experienced, switched-on team that values feedback, rigour, and momentum. We don’t rate ego. We maintain high standards, share success, and hold a deep respect for craft. You’ll work closely with our clients to meet ambitious goals and bring bold ideas to life.

Your role at a glance

  • Building award winning digital experiences and products for our clients.
  • Work closely within a multidisciplinary team to deliver world-class services.
  • Provide enhancements and ideas for various existing projects.
  • Provide technical support, solutions and recommendations.

Does this sound like you?

  • An insatiable appetite and excitement for new web technologies and techniques—you're prepared to try new things.
  • You see collaboration as crucial to success. You're comfortable both giving and receiving feedback, and turning conversations into strong, people-centered design outcomes; all our work is delivered through an egalitarian multidisciplinary approach.
  • It should go without saying: An advanced understanding of HTML5, CSS3 and JS, React.js, familiar with WCAG and a commitment to accessibility.
  • You know how to manage yourself within a team environment. You understand the balance between a flexible collaborative mindset and self-directed work.
  • Available to work on-site in our Richmond office.

You get extra credit for:

  • Experience using Node.js based build tools (Gulp, Webpack, Sass, etc.).
  • Experience using WebGL, Three.js, Unity or similar technologies to create animations and rich 3D applications.
  • Experience programming in PHP, with exposure to various CMS platforms, both headless and headed.
  • Knowledge of or experience with marketing theory and how your discipline adds value.

As a team member, you can also expect:

At August, ambition isn’t just welcomed, it’s expected. We think deep, move fast, and aim high. We don’t settle for safe. We chase the kind of progress that takes rigour, nerve, and a bit of obsession. Growth here is relentless, but it’s never lonely. You’ll be supported, challenged, and surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you win. That’s part of why our average tenure is over five years. People don’t just stay, they shape what comes next.

We work with organisations that are sharp, future-focused, and unapologetically driven. From healthcare to education, fintech to the arts; they’re all serious about doing good work that leaves a mark. We don’t just show up to design, strategise, or launch. We help marketers and leaders shape how their organisations operate, communicate, and evolve. The problems are often messy and challenging, and this is where we thrive.

As a team member, you can also expect:

  • A competitive salary package that is based on your skills and experience.
  • Flexible and hybrid working as standard.
  • Working within a highly motivated, talented, and technology-driven team.
  • A team of people who will invest in your career progression and development.
  • Company-wide policies that value your personal growth and work/life balance.
  • There are many other benefits that we will discuss when we meet with you.
