The Position

We are seeking an outstanding candidate able to broadly represent the field of Science and Technology Studies (STS). The ideal candidate will have excellent achievements in empirical research, an outstanding publication record, and an international reputation in STS indicated by publications (books, articles in journals and edited volumes central to the field). They will have proven ability to contribute to the development of STS conceptually and ideally institutionally. Their research profile should complement the existing strengths of the department topically, conceptually, and/or methodologically, offering the possibility to diversify department research and teaching and contributing to research interests across the Faculty and University. As an experienced teacher and an engaged academic, they will relate to a broad array of topics in STS in teaching, supervision, and public and policy engagement beyond their specific research profile. They will have proven leadership experience, demonstrating academic collegiality and a commitment to supporting young researchers and co-shaping a thriving intellectual and social environment at the department. Ideally, they are characterized by a strong ability to cooperate with communities/publics for whom their research in particular, or STS in general, is relevant.

  • Doctoral degree/PhD
  • Outstanding research achievements, excellent publication and funding record, international reputation

  • Experience in designing and managing large research projects
  • Enthusiasm for excellent teaching and supervision at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral level
  • Willingness to take on organisational and administrative responsibilities within the Faculty and/or the University

The University of Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within three years, proficiency in German sufficient for teaching in bachelor’s programmes and for participation in university committees.
