Data Modeller
12-Month Contract + Extensions | Hybrid Working | Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne
We’re recruiting for an experienced Data Modeller to join a large-scale federal government transformation program. This role plays a key part in the delivery of enterprise data solutions and will be responsible for leading the development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models across both core and access layers of an enterprise data warehouse.
You’ll work closely with business and technical teams to deliver high-quality, fit-for-purpose data models and play a key role in supporting analytics, reporting, and data governance outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise data modelling activities including the design and maintenance of conceptual, logical, and physical models.
- Set peer review standards and manage release processes for data models.
- Drive improvements in modelling practices, documentation, and development workflows.
- Develop and maintain SQL-based ETL and analytical code across platforms such as MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks.
- Support development of consumption layers for end-user reporting and analytics.
- Create and manage data dictionaries and ensure alignment with metadata-driven frameworks.
- Provide knowledge transfer and support for internal stakeholders and developers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, testers, and data consumers to ensure successful delivery of solutions.
- Maintain system documentation and contribute to backlog grooming and delivery planning.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in data modelling using metadata or model-driven frameworks.
- Proficiency with at least two of the following: MS SQL, Teradata, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks.
- Solid understanding of DevOps processes and tools.
- High-level programming capability, ideally with experience in Python, R, SAS, or Java.
- Strong knowledge of version control practices and tools.
- Expertise in SQL, including reverse-engineering complex end-user queries.
Desirable Criteria
- 4+ years in a similar data modelling role.
- Exposure to cloud tools (AWS S3, AWS Glue, or similar).
- Familiarity with SAS and Excel in a data warehousing context.
- Experience working in agile delivery environments.
