Performance Engineer

Performance Engineer (Remote from anywhere in AUS).

Must hold PR or Citizen.

We are seeking an elite level Performance Engineer with deep expertise in large-scale, high-availability systems and advanced AWS cloud architecture. You will play a key role in ensuring our platforms deliver exceptional performance, scalability, and reliability—meeting the demands of mission-critical, globally distributed services.

As a senior technical contributor, you’ll design, test, and optimise architectures capable of handling significant scale, leveraging your experience as a Tier 1 AWS Cloud Architect (or equivalent) to ensure robust infrastructure performance under heavy load. You will work closely with engineering, DevOps, and product teams to create performance-focused solutions that meet stringent SLAs.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Architect, implement, and optimise large-scale, high-throughput systems in AWS (or equivalent cloud environments).
• Lead performance testing, profiling, and tuning for distributed applications and microservices.
• Design and execute load, stress, and scalability tests to identify bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise application performance at both the infrastructure and code level.
• Ensure high availability, low latency, and fault-tolerant system design.
• Build monitoring and observability frameworks to track performance trends.
• Provide architectural recommendations for scaling infrastructure and services efficiently.

What We’re Looking For:

• 7+ years of experience working with large-scale, mission-critical systems with zero downtime.
• Proven track record as an AWS Cloud Architect at a Tier 1 level (or equivalent in other major cloud providers).
• Strong experience with performance engineering methodologies, tools, and best practices.
• Deep knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, ECS/EKS, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, S3, CloudFront, CloudWatch, and VPC networking.
• Proficiency in performance profiling, load testing, and distributed systems diagnostics.
• Strong scripting or programming skills (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Node.js) for performance tooling.
• Experience with observability tools (Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, AWS X-Ray, etc.).
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

Bonus Points:

• Experience in financial services, trading platforms, or other high-performance transaction systems.
• Exposure to container orchestration (Kubernetes) at scale.
• Background in SRE (Site Reliability Engineering) or DevOps roles.

Location: Remote from Australia (working Eastern seaboard times).
