About the Role

A permanent Software Engineer opportunity is available with a leading product-based business in the utilities sector. You will join a small, highly capable team in Perth that is currently frontend heavy, helping to expand the local backend capability.

This is a hands on role with around ninety percent coding. Your main focus will be backend development in Java with Spring Boot, building services that power mobile and web clients. You will also contribute across the stack using Angular, delivering features into two active product lines, including a new platform for the US market. Event sourcing is part of the architecture. Prior experience is welcome but not essential at this level.

The team has a collaborative “all in” culture where engineers are encouraged to build the best product they can. You will work on tangible software that helps people in a recession proof industry with a long term product roadmap. This is a full time role, ideally Perth based or in a Perth time zone, with flexibility on in office attendance.

You Should Have

• 3 to 5 years of commercial software engineering experience

• Solid backend skills with Java and familiarity with Spring Boot

• Experience delivering web applications with Angular or similar and willingness to work in Angular

• Understanding of RESTful services, data modelling, testing and secure coding

• Curiosity to learn event sourcing concepts such as aggregates and projections

• Clear communication skills and a strong team mindset

Nice to Have

• Exposure to Spring Boot in production

• Interest in event sourcing frameworks such as Axon, EventStore, EventFlow or Eventuate

• Interest in CI and CD and developer tooling such as GitHub, GitHub Actions, SonarCloud and SNYK

• Interest in AI and openness to using tools like GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT for productivity

• Awareness of mission critical domains and operational systems such as ADMS or scheduling
