Data Center Shift Engineer

The Data Center Shift Engineer is responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of all Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems within the data center. Working primarily during evening and night (flexible shifts), the engineer oversees and supervises the onsite MEP team to ensure uninterrupted facility performance. Key responsibilities include continuous monitoring, proactive maintenance, and swift resolution of technical issues to maintain optimal system reliability. The role also involves delivering smart hands services to data center clients in alignment with industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Extensive and proven experience in leading data center facilities operations, including oversight of onsite teams, systems, emergency response, and vendor management.
• Strong expertise in Building Management Systems (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
• Comprehensive experience in HVAC operations, and lifecycle maintenance.
• Demonstrated capability in managing end-to-end data center facilities.
• Solid understanding and operational experience with power systems including switchgear, busways, UPS, PDUs, RPDUs and Fire systems.
• Advanced knowledge of data center operations, infrastructure design, maintenance practices, and effective problem-solving.
• Skilled in managing multiple concurrent operational sites across diverse geographic locations.
• Experience in handling both onsite and remote technical teams.
• Proven people management skills, with a track record of guiding diverse teams to success.
• Optimization of process and procedure to eliminate human error and business impact.
• Experienced in overseeing data center projects and multi-site operations.
• Effective in managing local and remote engineering teams with strong people leadership.
• Deep understanding of industry standards, operational excellence, and risk mitigation.
• Ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate risks and observation proactively by keeping all the risk rating low
• Shadow the onsite service providers to ensure quality is never compromised for the operational deliverables.
• Internal alignment with all business function and alignment to deliver as per expectation.

Job Specific Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical, engineering, or Equivalent.
• Should have 5+ years of experience in managing data center facilities, operations, teams, and vendors.
• Strong expertise in BMS, DCIM, HVAC, fire systems, and power infrastructure (UPS, switchgear, PDUs).
• Experienced in overseeing data center projects and multi-site operations.
• Effective in managing local and remote engineering teams with strong people leadership.
• Deep understanding of industry standards, operational excellence, and risk mitigation.
