Job Description

As project coordinator you will make your mark supporting the salvage operation during preparation and subsequently the execution of salvage projects.

The working atmosphere within Smit Salvage is informal and is characterized by teamwork, professionalism and entrepreneurship. You are up for a challenge; you like a dynamic international maritime working environment.

As emergency responses to vessels are unplanned, the role requires flexibility and willingness to work standby shifts 1 week every 4 weeks.

Your Responsibilities As a Project Coordinator

  • Provide support during mobilization, execution and demobilization of salvage projects. This includes, but is not limited to, mobilization of equipment, travel arrangements for team members, organizing visas and acting as the point of contact for the salvage team throughout the execution of the project, where it concerns logistics or other operational related topics.
  • Ensure all parties are informed; accordingly, salvage crew and subcontractors and related tasks.
  • Update SharePoint & BIMS.
  • Manage contracts with subcontractors and suppliers according to the Boskalis approved subcontractor agreements.
  • Check if subcontractors are compliant with our standards where it concerns training and certification.
  • Identifying new subcontractors and/or suppliers and coordinating service agreements.
  • Operational duty to support the commercial department during chasing of opportunities.
  • On request, assist tender teams for wreck removal with preparation of tenders.
  • Ensure, advise and coordinate various activities related to SHEQ procedures and requirements.

Your qualities

You can make your mark as project coordinator if you:

  • Have more than 5 years of working experience, preferably in an international maritime setting. Shipping agency or logistic experience has a preference.
  • Are hands-on, flexible, creative, proactive and a team player.
  • Are willing to work on weekends and public holidays, with overtime and allowances compensated.
  • Knowledge of the applicable Occupational Health & Safety rules.
  • Have sound knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Have an excellent mastery of both written and spoken English. Dutch is preferred.

  • Your team: As a project coordinator you will work for SMIT Salvage Papendrecht. You will work together with other Papendrecht-based salvage colleagues and of course your colleagues in the other offices around the world.
  • Where you will work: You will work at our office in Papendrecht.
  • Full-time: The project coordinator position is full-time (40 hours per week).
