Post: Research Assistant A App Developer for START DS Project School of Food Science & Environmental Health (Specified purpose for up to 2 years with initial funding for 18 months) Reference: 339/2025

Location: The post will be based at one of the TU Dublin Campuses i.e. Aungier Street, Bolton Street, Grangegorman, Blanchardstown or Tallaght. Regular attendance at other sites will be required.

Hours of Work:A 37 hour working week is in operation.

Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed at point (01) of the Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale i.e. €32,962 gross per annum. Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. Incremental credit may apply in line with University policy.

It Is Anticipated That Interviews For This Post Will Take Place In Week Beginning 6th October 2025. The Interview Assessment Will Be 45 Minutes In Length And Will Include a Presentation Of 10 Minutes Duration. The Topic Of This Presentation Will Be As Follows

Essential

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities required for the role as outlined below and must satisfy all of the essential criteria:

  • An undergraduate Honours Degree (NQF L8) or equivalent award by an approved degreeawarding Authority in computer science, or related subject
  • Experience in mobile application development (e.g., SWIFT, Flutter, React Native, or Android/iOS native development).
  • Experience with user experience (UX) design or UI prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD).
  • Familiarity with data analysis (e.g., SPSS, R, or Python).
  • Demonstrated familiarity with app development and other related subject matters (e.g. Human-Computer Interaction, Digital Psychology, Educational Technology).
  • Working knowledge of research techniques.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across international, interdisciplinary teams.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their demonstration of meeting every essential criterion so are asked to clearly outline how their experience and qualifications meet the criteria.

Desirable

  • A portfolio of previous development apps.
  • Previous experience working on EU-funded or Erasmus+ projects.
  • Interest in digital wellbeing, education innovation, or social impact tech.

Candidates may be shortlisted on the basis of none, one or more of these desirable criteria and are asked to clearly outline how their experience and qualifications meet the criteria.

In the case of a 1st Post-doctoral Fellowship where the applicant may not have graduated yet, the successful applicant must, at the time of appointment, provide a letter from the appropriate graduate studies office confirming that the student has completed the programme including all the examination requirements and is just awaiting the formal graduation ceremony and the likely date on which that will take place.
