The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.
Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.
Your role
- Conduct research in risk analysis and statistical modelling of complex actuarial data
- Plan quality research, project managing the scientific activity and supervising the research team in cooperation with the Professor
- Conduct, on own initiative, research and/or develop own research projects in the above mentioned area
- Identify, apply for and manage research funding as well as allocate project resources
- Research dissemination at international conferences and to the actuarial industry
- Teaching activity of up to 90 hours per year in the new Master of Actuarial Science, hereby developing new courses for the Master
- Contribute to student assessment activities, including writing and reviewing assignments and questions for course components
- Supervise master students carrying out practical work
- May participate in dissertation supervisory committees
- Active participation in and support of the organization of the activities of the research group Team MIDAS and of DMATH
- PhD of high quality, ideally in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics or Finance
- Interest in interdisciplinary work, especially in actuarial/economic/finance research.
- Detailed knowledge of relevant models, techniques and methods, and able to develop new ones
- Demonstrated success in planning related work, building a team and delivering research results
- Proven ability to formulate advice on and manage teaching and/or research programmes/projects
- Experience in programming languages such as Python or R
- Very good written and oral skills in English
- Capacity to integrate into a team and collaborate with its members, in particular with the researchers hired under the Chair in Applied Statistics of Actuarial Science
