The Government of Alberta (GoA) is transforming public service delivery to be more efficient, citizen-centric, and digitally enabled. The Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) Division is the GoA’s hub for modern digital service design and delivery, driving innovation and capability across government through agile practices, human-centered design, and data-driven approaches.
DDD collaborates with ministries to review programs and services and implement digital transformation initiatives. This includes identifying improvement opportunities and delivering new services that are more efficient, effective, and affordable.
Role Overview
The GoA is seeking up to six (6) experienced DevOps Specialists to support digital transformation initiatives across ministries. These roles will support cross-functional teams working on service innovation and delivery.
DevOps Specialists Will
- Support product and program delivery teams.
- Manage and optimize CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
- Ensure effective and secure operations for services in development and production.
- Mentor teams in DevOps best practices and agile delivery.
DevOps Specialists will be assigned to 2–3 projects concurrently. Responsibilities include:
Operations and Automation
- Develop scripts, tools, and procedures to support zero-downtime deployments.
- Manage production environment configurations, credentials, maintenance schedules, and database operations.
- Design and automate CI/CD pipelines and testing environments.
- Build monitoring, alerting, and observability tools for applications.
- Work with delivery teams to support integration testing, security scans, performance testing, and incremental releases (Alpha/Beta).
- Promote DevOps best practices across teams and projects.
- Primary Work Location: Remote
- Onsite Work: May be required in Edmonton with reasonable notice
- Travel: Possible travel within Alberta for field research/user interviews (covered by the Province when applicable)
- Work Hours: Up to 1,960 hours annually (may vary by project)
Must-Have Experience
Skill Duration Research, analysis, and problem-solving 3 years Documentation of issues, solutions, and procedures 3 years Use of SSH Clients and Remote Desktop 3 years Security awareness (e.g., secrets management, TLS) 3 years Cloud platforms: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS), GCP (BigQuery, Cloud) 3 years Command-line usage and file system traversal 4 years Networking tools (e.g., DNS lookups, trace routes) 1 year Scripting (e.g., PowerShell) 4 years
Nice-to-Have Experience
