The HR Generalist Nordic Lead is responsible for supporting our people and business leadership team in the Nordics within our Europe cluster. The business priority is to focus on growth and profitability, unleashing the full potential of this market with fewer, sharper priorities and a new way of working that delivers operational excellence. Given the entrepreneurial nature of our markets, the HR Generalist is an exciting opportunity to deliver all HR needs across the geography with close involvement and proximity to business leadership.
In HR, we have been undergoing a multi-year journey to standardise the ways in which our people receive support across the end-to-end employee life cycle: from Hire to Retire. The HR delivery model is based upon the principle of “digital first and human when it matters most” whereby our people will receive support digital services alongside in-market HR support for employee care, delivered by the HR Generalist Nordic Lead.
The HR Generalist Nordic Lead role will report into the One Unilever HR Lead for the cluster and will have a direct report to support their agenda.
Key Responsibilities
HR Partnership and Leadership
- Be a trusted partner and support the country general manager with coaching and team effectiveness.
- Responsible to lead on change and transformation where relevant. This includes leading/guiding restructuring at an employee level (for example, conducting consultation and severance conversations as per legal requirements).
- Lead on external representation, governance and compliance, and mandatory reporting.
- Support on incident and crisis management for the country.
- Accountable for HR data for the teams they partner.
- Accountable for people costs and workforce planning in market, ensuring delivery of overheads.
- Responsible for the implementation and management of existing and new employment policies in line with statutory requirements and best practice. This includes ownership of the local benefits, including pensions etc.
- Ensure consistent application of HR policies and practices on all matters and decisions across the business.
- Lead, guide, and resolve all employment matters with line managers, ensuring compliance and correct interpretation of all relevant employment legislation, HR policies, and HR practices.
- Provide hire-to-retire support where there is a legal, fiscal, or regulatory requirement.
- Provide leadership and expert guidance on performance improvement, disciplinary actions, grievance handling, collective and individual consultation, and redundancy processes.
- Work side-by-side with relevant experts and decision makers in HR ( Payroll, Reward, Talent etc.), providing support and subject matter expertise to recommend appropriate decisions/actions to address and resolve complex HR queries or problems. This includes areas such as absence management, family leave, and flexible working cases.
- Collaborate with the talent hub and partner for resourcing and recruiting needs.
- Employee Relations – desirable to have working knowledge of Nordic policies, regulations and laws, as well as experience in managing employee relations cases. The role requires managing end-to-end employee relations, creating transparent practices and effective mechanisms for dialogue to inform, consult and engage the workforce.
- Business Acumen & Strategic Thinking – Understanding of how a business drives P&L performance with clarity on how the people agenda can positively impact it.
- Stakeholder management - Proven experience with managing a range of stakeholders, being able to support multiple requests and priorities simultaneously
- Risk Management - Proactively identify and manage risks and able to protect the business through driving appropriate risk mitigation, advising the business and adopting appropriate practices and procedures.
- Performance coaching & leadership – Ability to challenge and give performance feedback in a way that grows individuals and helps the business perform better.
- HR Processes - Possess experience with HR processes and preferably has experience of working with HR support centres.
- Emotional Intelligence - Experienced in handling sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy, and comfortable having difficult conversations, working professionally and discreetly with sensitive information.
- Desirable to speak one or more Nordic languages. English is essential.
