About the Role
Our federal government client is seeking a highly skilled Cyber Advisor to join a high-performing and fast-paced ICT Cyber Security team. This contract position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic government environment, assessing and mitigating risks across various ICT systems, including cloud and legacy infrastructures.
As a Cyber Security Advisor, you will conduct risk assessments for a range of ICT systems and applications, ensuring compliance with key security frameworks including the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and the Information Security Manual (ISM). You will also provide expert guidance on security practices and recommendations for improving security postures across the department’s environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments in line with PSPF, ISM, and Essential Eight.
- Assess security risks for Azure Cloud, legacy ICT systems, AI technology, and other complex systems.
- Collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to explain security risks and propose actionable solutions.
- Present findings and risk assessments to senior executive audiences.
- Assist in identifying opportunities to enhance security practices within the department.
- Provide guidance on system and application designs, ensuring they adhere to Australian government security standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex security issues as they arise.
Essential Criteria:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working within government conducting security risk assessments as part of a cyber security team.
- Experience in conducting security risk assessments with Azure Cloud, legacy ICT systems, AI technology, and other complex systems.
- Current knowledge of PSPF, ISM, and Essential Eight, with experience providing guidance on their application to system and application designs.
- Proven experience liaising with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, effectively communicating cyber security issues, system risks, and recommendations.
- Strong understanding of networking infrastructure and its role in security assessments.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot complex security issues and resolve them efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with limited supervision while producing high-quality outcomes.
- Capacity to manage large workloads and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex systems to a non-technical audience.
- Experience presenting security findings to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
