DevOps Engineer (12-Month FTC) – Remote UK

Amber Labs is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our growing team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, with the potential for extension. This is a remote-first position based in the UK.
In this role, you’ll be instrumental in architecting, automating, and maintaining robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure environments that support our clients' mission-critical systems. You will work in a highly collaborative environment, focused on continuous improvement, automation, and DevOps best practices—particularly within government and public sector projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure cloud infrastructure using AWS
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management using Terraform
- Deploy and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes
- Implement CI/CD pipelines to support rapid development and deployment cycles
- Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise systems in production environments
- Ensure infrastructure meets security, compliance, and governance standards (particularly for government environments)
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on best practices in infrastructure automation and cloud architecture
- Support knowledge sharing and mentoring across the DevOps function
Essential Skills & Experience
- SC clearance is essential – applicants without SC cannot be considered
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer working on UK government or public sector projects
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services
- Proficient with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Solid understanding and experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration
- Strong skills in Docker for containerisation
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, CloudWatch)
- Understanding of security best practices in DevOps and cloud environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
