Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled AI Engineer with a strong foundation in data science, machine learning, and large language models (LLMs) to join our healthcare technology team. 

In this role, you’ll contribute to our mission of delivering world-class cardiac monitoring through advanced AI-driven solutions. You’ll design, build, and deploy conversational AI systems that improve patient interactions and support clinicians in delivering personalised care. 

Working alongside healthcare and technology experts, you’ll bring scalable AI models into production, ensuring their reliability and performance in real-world applications.

This is a full-time role based in Hillsdale, our office hours are Monday to Friday - 8am to 5pm. You will be required to attend the office 4-5 days per week depending on the projects you are involved in.

Key Responsibilities

• Conversational AI Development: Design and deploy conversational agents to assist patients and caregivers, making complex heart health information accessible and empathetic.
• AI Model Deployment & Scaling: Build and deploy scalable AI models optimized for production environments, ensuring efficiency and reliability under high-volume usage.
• Backend Integration: Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate AI models through APIs and microservices, enabling seamless functionality within healthcare applications.
• Algorithm Enhancement: Enhance LLM and ML algorithms to improve model performance, with a focus on medical context understanding and personalized patient recommendations.
• Dialogue Flow Design: Create, test, and refine conversational flows, intents, and response mechanisms to deliver a warm, user-centered experience.
• Data Management & Analysis: Lead data processing, analysis, and curation efforts to maintain high model accuracy and performance in clinical applications.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, UX, and clinical teams to ensure AI solutions align with healthcare standards and provide an optimal patient experience.
• Documentation & Best Practices: Develop best practices and document workflows for consistency and reproducibility in AI development and deployment.

Qualifications

• Education: PhD, Master’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Expertise in LLMs & Machine Learning: Strong foundation in large language models, machine learning, and applied AI, with experience in building applications using LLMs as a strong advantage.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python (required), with additional knowledge of JavaScript, Java, or other languages as a plus.
• Framework & Library Proficiency: Experience with AI/ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and LLM/NLP libraries (e.g., Hugging Face, spaCy) for developing and deploying scalable models.
• Chatbot & Virtual Agent Development: Hands-on experience with chatbot development platforms, such as Dialogflow, Rasa, or Microsoft Bot Framework.
• Cloud & Deployment Knowledge: Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization/orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is preferred.
• Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills

• Conversational Design: Understanding of conversational design principles to create engaging, user-centered interactions.
• API Integration: Familiarity with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, or gRPC for efficient model integration.
• Data Preprocessing & Augmentation: Proficiency in data preprocessing techniques, data augmentation, and handling imbalanced datasets, essential for healthcare applications.
• Performance Optimization: Experience in optimizing LLMs for responsiveness and efficiency, particularly in healthcare settings.
