Senior Full Stack Engineer

Respondent is building the infrastructure that powers participant recruiting for the research industry. Our mission is simple but ambitious: to make it effortless for researchers to find high-quality participants - whether they’re testing a product, exploring a market, or validating an idea.

From our founder’s first recruits on a NYC subway to a global panel of 3 million participants across 150+ countries, we now support research for companies like Microsoft, Dropbox, and P&G. Our panel is one of the most diverse and responsive in the industry.

As the research world shifts rapidly, demand for high-quality participants is growing fast. Respondent is well-positioned to meet that demand, helping companies run better, faster research at scale.

We’re a lean global team of ~30 people across Sydney, Manila, and the U.S. We’ve recently become cash positive and we are ramping up to accelerate growth. We have already made the leap from 0 to 1 - this is a rare chance to help us take it from 1 to 10!

💼 The role:

You’ll be joining our Sydney team as a Senior Full Stack Engineer. This is an in-office role where you’ll be a core part of a lean, fast-moving engineering team - so we’re looking for someone who’s genuinely excited about in-person collaboration.

A big part of our roadmap is front-end work, with plenty of initiatives planned to level up the product experience. You’ll have the chance to take real ownership here and make a visible impact.

This role is perfect for an engineer who enjoys solving customer problems, shipping quickly, and is excited to join a growing startup where contributions matter from day one.

📌 What You'll Do:

• Build our new frontend: Design and develop core parts of the new React frontend and help make tech and product decisions on the implementation.
• Raise the quality bar: Implement Frontend e2e tests using Playwright
• Work at the edge of AI: We’re actively using AI in our dev workflows and our product and you’ll help us push that further.
• Product Engineering: Work with product to design, develop, and improve software products by considering the entire system to meet user needs and align with business requirements.
• Software Process Optimisation: Implement and refine software development processes and methodologies, enhancing efficiency and quality in front-end, back-end, and data engineering contexts.
• Mobile App Development: Work on the new Respondent mobile application in React Native
• Backend Development: Work with the backend team when needed to fully understand how it works and to make changes when needed

💡 What you’ll bring:

• Full stack expertise: You have strong experience across both front-end and back-end. Our stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, AWS and MongoDB, and we use Bun, Tanstack, and many modern frameworks - but we care more about your ability to learn and ship than a perfect tech match.
• Builder’s mindset: You’ve delivered real products or features before - whether at work, in a side project, or something you put out there yourself. You care about solving problems end-to-end, not just writing code.
• Adaptability: You are comfortable in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment, and can figure things out when we don’t have all the answers
• Quick learner: You have a growth mindset and can quickly learn new languages, tools and frameworks.
