Part-Time Virtual CISO (German Mother Tongue | Remote )

Location: Remote (Germany-based, occasional onsite)

Compensation: Up to €1,200/day

Engagement: Part-time (flexible), 12-month minimum

About the Role

We’re looking for a seasoned Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to join as a virtual security leader for one of our portfolio companies a German Professional Services business generating ~€120M in annual revenue.

This is a newly created role, designed to strengthen the company’s security posture as it scales rapidly across Germany. You’ll have a direct line to the board, PE owners, and the internal IT manager, advising on strategic risk, compliance, data protection, and scalable security governance.

You won’t be firefighting day-to-day IT issues. This is about building a pragmatic, business-aligned security framework that supports growth without bureaucracy.

What You’ll Do

• Assess current security landscape and identify key gaps
• Define and implement a lightweight, risk-based information security roadmap
• Advise leadership on compliance, GDPR, and data protection matters
• Oversee vendor and third-party risk management
• Mentor and support the local IT function
• Report to the operating partner, and collaborate closely with German IT leadership

What We’re Looking For

• Fluent German speaker – essential for communicating with internal teams and customers
• Proven CISO or senior security leadership experience, ideally within mid-sized or multi-entity organizations
• Strong understanding of ISO 27001, GDPR, and IT risk frameworks
• Pragmatic mindset: able to balance security, speed, and business value
• Availability for 1–2 days per month on-site (Germany), with the rest fully remote
• Comfortable working in a fractional or advisory capacity alongside a full-time role
