Senior Backend Developer (Java/Kotlin)

Hi, I’m Tomas Brimor, Engineering Manager for Team Enrichment & API at Telia Play. We’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join our team, which serves as the engine behind the consistent, complete, and lightning-fast metadata catalog that powers the Telia TV experience across the Nordics.

What You’ll Do

As a Developer in Team Enrichment & API, you’ll work at the core of our metadata ecosystem. Our mission is to aggregate, normalize, enrich, and deliver metadata from a wide range of providers efficiently, accurately, and reliably. This metadata acts as a critical data layer that supports content discovery, playback, recommendations, and catalog navigation across the Telia TV platform.

You will:

• Design and build backend services that process and enrich metadata in near real-time
• Model and maintain metadata structures that ensure consistency and completeness
• Create APIs and event-driven systems to support metadata distribution across teams
• Optimize performance and correctness in a high-throughput, low-latency pipeline
• Collaborate with backend developers, data specialists, and other teams to innovate across the entire metadata lifecycle, from ingestion and modeling to enrichment and delivery
  
  

Our typical tech choices include Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot, deployed in AWS. We use SNS, SQS, and Kinesis for event-driven and message-based communication. Data is stored in PostgreSQL and DynamoDB, depending on access needs. Infrastructure is defined using Terraform, and we maintain a cloud-native workflow with CI/CD pipelines in GitHub along with strong observability practices, including metrics and dashboards in Grafana.

Who You Are

You’re a backend engineer who enjoys building scalable systems, understands the importance of data quality, and thrives in collaborative environments. You take ownership and think beyond code to improve systems as a whole.

We’re looking for someone with:

• 5+ years of professional experience in Java/Kotlin and backend development
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native services (preferably AWS), container orchestration (Kubernetes), and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
• Proficiency in designing and maintaining data processing pipelines, APIs, and system integrations
• A proactive mindset and focus on improving systems rather than simply delivering features
• Fluency in English and strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Awareness of secure software development practices (SSDLC) and commitment to quality assurance
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot
• Bonus: hands-on experience with AI/ML including prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, and deploying models into production systems.
