Senior Java Developer / Architect (Contract – Hybrid, Brussels)

Location: Brussels, Belgium (Hybrid)

Duration: 12-month initial contract (extendable)

Rate: €400–€500 per day (Gross)

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer / Architect to join a large-scale digital transformation project. In this role, you will design, architect, and develop enterprise-grade backend systems using Java, Spring Boot, REST, and Oracle, while also contributing to solution design and integration with technologies such as Elasticsearch and Flowable.

Qualifications

• Experience Level: Senior – 7+ years of professional experience in Java backend development and architecture.
• Proven expertise in Java (Spring Boot) and REST API development.
• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle databases and SQL.
• Familiarity with GraphQL and Angular is an advantage.
• Practical experience with Elasticsearch and/or Flowable (BPM/workflow engines).
• Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and microservices principles.
• Experience with CI/CD, Git, and containerization tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is desirable.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in an international environment.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, secure backend architectures using Java (Spring Boot).
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and integrations with relational databases.
• Contribute to system architecture decisions, performance optimization, and best practice implementation.
• Integrate backend systems with ElasticSearch for data indexing and search capabilities.
• Collaborate on Flowable-based workflow and process automation implementations.
• Work closely with front-end teams using Angular to ensure seamless integration.
• Support and guide development teams with architectural decisions, code reviews, and technical mentoring.
• Ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to security standards.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, stakeholder meetings, and progress reviews.
