Software Developer (Space & Earth Observation)

Position Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Software Developer to join our dynamic Space & Earth Observation team. In this role, you will collaborate with international partners on a variety of exciting projects for European Space Agency. These projects span a range of areas, including satellite data processing (optical and radar imagery), the development of applications leveraging the uptake both space and non-space data, and the creation of software for diverse architectures and platforms.

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge work in the Space and Geo domain and join the largest and successful space software development team in Estonia. The ideal candidate will have strong background in Python and C/C++ and solid understanding of the technologies outlined below. The position requires excellent problem-solving and teamwork abilities, as well as a passion for advancing space-related innovations.

Your future responsibilities:

  • Designing, developing and maintaining high quality software applications using Python, C/C++, and other relevant programming languages as required.
  • Performing thorough testing of your code, ensuring functionality, performance, and resolving any identified issues or bugs.
  • Effectively communicating progress, results, and challenges in daily meetings with consortium partners and end customer.
  • Producing comprehensive and clear documentation for all development work, ensuring traceability and knowledge sharing.

Required qualifications:

  • Professional Experience: 4+ years of experience in software development. We welcome individuals who have diverse programming backgrounds and are eager to grow their skills in this domain.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong Python and C/C++ development skills are highly valued. Experience with similar languages or a willingness to learn is also appreciated.
  • Foundational Knowledge: A solid understanding of technologies relevant to software development and a passion for continuous learning.
  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Excellent teamwork and critical thinking skills to address complex challenges effectively.
  • Communication: A good level of spoken and written English to support collaboration across teams.
  • Development Practices: Familiarity with Agile principles and tools, or an interest in learning and applying them.
  • Bonus Skills: Hands-on experience with Unix/Linux CLI, Jupyter Notebooks, ESA SNAP, QGIS, Google Earth Engine or any other geospatial processing tools, also knowledge of Electronics and Mechanics is a plus but not mandatory.
  • Passion for the Domain: A keen interest in the Space and Geospatial domains, with a curiosity to explore and contribute to innovative solutions.
