A government organisation in the Melbourne CBD is offering a hybrid Security Analyst contract.

Your new company

A respected government organisation in the Melbourne CBD is looking to recruit a Security Analyst, commencing ASAP. This organisation promotes a collaborative and supportive work environment and offers exposure to leading technologies. This fixed-term contract opportunity will be ideal for someone who has gained experience with a broad range of security and infrastructure vendors, has a solid understanding of GRC and has hands-on experience working as an incident responder within a SOC environment.

Your new role

In this challenging and rewarding position, you will:

  • Monitor and analyse security systems, tools, and alerts to identify vulnerabilities, threats, and incidents across the organisation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to report and respond to cyber security issues, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
  • Conduct daily reviews of system logs, threat intelligence feeds, and vulnerability scans to support proactive threat detection and response.
  • Assist in implementing security patches, upgrades, and configuration changes in line with organisational standards and compliance requirements.
  • Support technical assessments of cyber security controls, contribute to remediation activities, and help prepare compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help maintain and update cyber security policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure alignment with relevant frameworks and best practices.
  • Participate in security testing activities including audits, penetration tests, phishing simulations, and incident response exercises, providing technical input and support.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 5+ years' cybersecurity experience in SOC and/or in reporting and advice on cyber security vulnerabilities (GRC) capacity.
  • Full Australian working rights and valid driving licence.
  • Tertiary qualifications e.g. A Degree or Diploma in an Information Technology related or Computer Science related field, as well as extensive relevant industry experience, is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in monitoring, detecting, and responding to security vulnerabilities, incidents, and threats using a range of technical tools and methodologies.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting skills across enterprise-grade hardware, software, and network environments to resolve complex security issues.
  • Active participation in IT change management, patching, and vulnerability remediation processes to maintain a secure and resilient infrastructure.
  • Solid working knowledge of cloud platforms such as Microsoft 365, Azure, and Salesforce, as well as internet and network security technologies including firewalls, load balancers, and remote access systems.
  • Familiarity with key information security standards and frameworks, including AS ISO 27001 and ISO27005, the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), Victorian Privacy and Data Protection Act, and the Victorian Protective Data Security Framework (VPDSF).
