About the Role

This Lab Technician position is a full-time, onsite role based in Abu Dhabi, supporting advanced research and diagnostic activities within a dynamic biotechnology environment. The role is suited for early to mid-career professionals with a strong foundation in laboratory techniques, scientific instrumentation, and quality assurance. The Lab Technician plays a critical part in ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and safety of laboratory operations, directly contributing to the success of research and product development initiatives in the biotech sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of laboratory tests and assays, adhering strictly to established protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, spectrophotometers, PCR machines, and biosafety cabinets.
• Prepare chemical solutions, reagents, and biological samples with precision, ensuring all materials are correctly labeled and documented.
• Assist scientists and research staff in the setup, execution, and documentation of experiments, including data collection and preliminary analysis.
• Monitor laboratory inventory, manage ordering of supplies, and ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with safety regulations.
• Maintain meticulous records of all laboratory activities, including test results, equipment maintenance logs, and incident reports, ensuring traceability and data integrity.
• Conduct routine quality control checks and participate in internal audits to uphold laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 17025, GLP).
• Adhere to strict biosafety and biosecurity protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and participation in regular safety training sessions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research scientists, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to support ongoing projects and process improvements.
• Participate in the onboarding and training of new laboratory staff or interns, sharing best practices and promoting a culture of safety and excellence.

Required Experience & Skills

• Demonstrated experience in a laboratory setting, preferably within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or clinical diagnostics industries.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining laboratory instruments such as autoclaves, pipettes, microplate readers, and analytical balances.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety protocols, chemical handling, and biological sample management.
• Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis) and/or cell culture methods.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and maintain accurate records under time constraints.
• Competence in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and basic data analysis software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, GraphPad Prism).
• Effective communication skills for reporting results, documenting procedures, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
• Adaptability to evolving laboratory technologies and willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific discipline.
• Certification or training in laboratory safety, biosafety, or quality management systems is highly advantageous.
• Prior experience in a regulated laboratory environment (e.g., ISO, GLP, GMP) is preferred.
• Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset.
