AI Developer – Applied AI, Generative Models & Agent Systems
Location: Remote Australia - need to be based up the east coast (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane)
I’m currently working with a fast-growing tech startup that’s building advanced intelligence capabilities through its flagship data platform. They support clients across government, defense, and enterprise sectors globally — and are now entering an exciting new phase of growth.
The Role
We’re looking for an AI Developer who’s genuinely passionate about applied AI, machine learning, and generative technologies. You’ll be part of a small, high-performing team driving the next generation of AI features into a live, global platform.
You’ll enjoy this role if you:
- Live and breathe AI — from prompt engineering and fine-tuning to embeddings and agent systems
- Stay across the latest in AI research and open-source frameworks
- Love moving from research into production-grade implementation
- Want to build meaningful, scalable features — not just prototypes
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain AI/ML modules (model serving, prompt orchestration, agent systems, embedding stores)
- Work on fine-tuning, RAG pipelines, vector search, and reinforcement learning agents
- Integrate AI components with the core backend and frontend (Vue.js)
- Build and optimise data pipelines for training, evaluation, and inference
- Experiment with leading-edge frameworks (Llama, GPT, Claude, Mistral, LangChain, Hugging Face, etc.)
- Optimise for performance, scalability, and cost in production environments
- Contribute to code reviews, documentation, and CI/CD processes
- Collaborate across product, backend, and DevOps teams to deliver AI-driven features
What You’ll Bring
- 3+ years’ experience working in AI/ML or software engineering (production, research, or strong side projects)
- Solid engineering experience with Python and Vue.js
- Hands on experience working with JavaScript framworks
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks
- Understanding of inference performance, scaling, caching, and cost trade-offs
- Strong problem-solving ability and comfort working in a fast-moving, collaborative team
Location:
Remote - Up the East Coast (Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane)
