Job Title: Control Systems Engineer
Location: Antwerp, Belgium
Salary: Up to €80,000
The Job:
We are looking for a skilled and driven Control Systems Engineer to join the team and contribute to the development of Docking and Berthing Systems (IBDM) for human spaceflight. In this role, you will be integral to designing, testing, and optimising control systems for spacecraft docking, ensuring that systems perform seamlessly across the entire project lifecycle. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your technical expertise to complex, high-impact space missions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Take ownership of higher-level technical requirements related to control and operation, collaborating closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment.
- Convert high-level control requirements into actionable design, development, and testing criteria for the control software.
- Assist with managing the technical budget, ensuring resources are used efficiently to meet project goals.
- Model, simulate, and optimise IBDM kinematics using Multi-body Dynamics (MBD) techniques to improve system performance.
- Utilise MATLAB/Simulink to design and deploy control algorithms, generating C code for hardware integration.
- Lead system and subsystem level tests, ensuring all functional and performance benchmarks are met.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including reports, test plans, and procedures, ensuring coherence across all project documentation.
- Work closely with teams across mechanical, thermal, electrical, and software engineering to ensure alignment and maintain technical integrity.
The Must-Haves:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, or a related field.
- Proven experience in the development and optimisation of control algorithms.
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and system integration.
- Expertise in Matlab, Simulink, Simscape, or dSPACE for system modelling, simulation, and control testing.
- Experience in validation, verification, and functional testing of complex systems.
- Strong technical writing skills, with experience creating clear and detailed reports and documentation.
- Excellent communication skills, both technical and interpersonal, for effective collaboration and problem-solving.
The Nice to Haves:
- Experience with robotic control systems or space systems development.
- Familiarity with real-time control and system optimisation techniques.
- Knowledge of the design and integration of space mechanisms is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with testing and validation in an aerospace or high-technology environment.
- Knowledge of mechatronic design and interdisciplinary system integration.
