About The Role
We are looking for a talented Backend Software Engineer to join Promptly. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about building scalable systems and designing elegant architectures that power impactful applications. You will play a key role in developing and evolving our backend ecosystem, contributing to European-scale projects focused on data, interoperability, and secure software infrastructure.
We’re looking for someone who combines strong engineering fundamentals with a curiosity for architectural design and distributed systems — someone who enjoys transforming complex requirements into robust, maintainable, and high-performing solutions.

What You’ll Work On
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, with a focus on clean architecture, modularity, and system performance.
- Collaborate on European research and innovation projects, working with distributed teams across different institutions and industries.
- Contribute to system architecture discussions, helping shape the technical direction and infrastructure evolution of our platforms.
- Develop APIs and data services that integrate securely and efficiently within decentralized ecosystems.
- Write high-quality, testable code, maintaining strong standards of documentation and reproducibility.
- Have a solid foundation in computer science principles, including algorithms, data structures, and distributed systems.
- Bring proven experience in backend development using Python or similar languages.
- Are comfortable working with Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
- Enjoy thinking deeply about system design, architecture patterns, and scalability challenges.
- Have an interest in federated systems, data interoperability, or privacy-enhancing technologies.
- Thrive in collaborative, cross-functional environments, especially within multi-partner European projects.
- Possess strong technical writing skills, able to clearly document designs, APIs, and architectural decisions.
- Are self-motivated, curious, and take ownership of your work from concept to deployment.
- Experience designing and operating microservices architectures.
- Knowledge of privacy-preserving data sharing or federated learning frameworks.
- Experience contributing to open-source projects or EU-funded R&D initiatives.
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry).
