Game Designer
Role Overview
As a Game Designer at our AI Gaming Stealth Startup, you will shape narrative-driven gameplay systems where player choices and character dynamics create fresh stories every time. You will design core loops, prototypes, and mechanics that make characters feel alive, relationships feel earned, and drama feel personal. You will collaborate closely with narrative, AI, and engineering teams to define how player agency drives emotional and strategic outcomes in a modular story environment.
You will help define:
- How characters react, remember, and evolve over time
- How relationships and trust influence the narrative and gameplay
- How players drive story discovery through action, exploration, and choice
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype, and balance core gameplay systems (relationship, inventory, haunting/atmosphere, discovery, etc.).
- Translate narrative arcs into interactive gameplay beats and moment-to-moment objectives
- Collaborate with AI and engineering to define state-based logic and autonomous character behaviors
- Partner with AI team and writers to systematize dialogue triggers, emotional reactions, and consequence structures
- Build and maintain design documentation, flow diagrams, and narrative-system references
- Conduct playtests, analyze player behavior, and refine for clarity, pacing, and impact
- Champion player experience and clarity, ensuring gameplay supports emotional tone and story intent
What We Are Looking For
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Game Design on narrative, simulation, or systems-heavy titles
- Strong grasp of interactive storytelling and emergent gameplay
- Solid experience with Unity (graybox prototyping, prefabs, gameplay iteration)
- Comfort working with state machines, behavior trees, or node-based narrative tools
- Ability to collaborate well across design, writing, engineering, and art disciplines
- Comfort with ambiguity and working without rigid pipelines
- A mindset that embraces rapid prototyping, testing, and fearless iteration
- Bias toward action: build, test, learn, refine
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
Bonus Skills
- Experience designing for AI-driven characters or systemic narrative mechanics
- Background in life-sim, relationship sims, or branching narrative games
- Fluency in UX for narrative clarity and player choice readability
- Familiarity with metrics for player choices, emotion, intent, or memory-like systems
- Experience running structured playtests and synthesizing insights into improvements
