The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Projects Directorate (PJ) - Energy & Environment Department (E2D) - Energy Advisory & Energy Efficiency Division (ENAD), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026)

(With possible extension up to 6 months if required by University)

Objective of the traineeship

You will contribute to the digital transformation of the lending and advisory functions by:

  • Supporting the evaluation of allocations in lending, especially Framework Loans, using AI tools.
  • Automating the monitoring process for internal reporting.
  • Structuring and exploring automation of EIB Advisory related reporting; leveraging the internal EIB Advisory database and automating advisory related reporting (e.g across and for mandates, including for ELENA and JASPERS mandate related documentation; reporting per sectors, countries, and investments etc).
  • Developing templates and compiling historical data for internal reporting, in collaboration with internal colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Analyse current processes and identify opportunities for AI and IT-driven automation.
  • Develop and implement solutions for automated monitoring and reporting.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to structure data and reporting templates.
  • Support the division in the automated preparation of documentation and presentations.

Academic Qualifications And Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree (preferably Master’s) ideally in Data Science, Information Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Environmental/Social Sciences, Engineering, or Business with relevant modules.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable finance, ESG, or public procurement.
  • Experience with AI-assisted analysis tools.
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights and visual narratives.
  • Proven ability to collect, clean, and analyse datasets using tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or Python.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
