We’re looking for a creative and hands-on Frontend Developer (React / Next.js) to join an AI innovation team exploring the future of news and information delivery through interactive and conversational interfaces.
You’ll be part of a small, multidisciplinary innovation team (designers, AI specialists, editors) working on experimental formats for digital storytelling and news consumption. The goal is to turn ideas into real, working prototypes and prepare them for launch as a production-ready web application.
What You’ll Do
- Build fast, functional prototypes and interfaces using React and Next.js.
- Translate UX concepts into clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.
- Collaborate with designers and researchers to create new interactive components.
- Apply solid component architecture and good design patterns.
- Ensure usability, performance, and accessibility standards are met.
- Balance experimentation with pragmatism — knowing when a solution should be “good enough to test” vs. “ready for launch.”
What are we looking for?
- React (3+ years) – strong command of hooks, state management, and reusable component structures.
- Next.js experience (or strong interest and ability to pick it up fast).
- Component libraries such as Material UI or HeroUI.
- Strong feel for design, UX, and interaction — you care how things feel, not just how they work.
- Experience building interactive web applications.
- Knowledge of Agile development methods.
- Fluent in Dutch (CEFR C2) – mandatory.
- Experience with AI-driven or data-intensive interfaces.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Ability to coach developers or contribute to a small development team
What do we offer?
Location: Brussels (hybrid)
Start: 1 December 2025
End: 31 December 2026 (initial 2-month contract with potential extension)
Contract: Freelance via intermediary (100% workload)
